Gary Fixter The Tackles section summarizes tackles and assists by year (some teams recorded assists in 1994, others did not). The reason we need this column is that a player must be classified as one player to calculate the VBD and only at that position. Before 1994, tackle data was collected inconsistently from team to team and stored in the database. From 1994 to today, all tackles have been recorded consistently and should be in our database, but remain an unofficial statistic.
Gary Fixter Football Statistics |
Gary Fixter The expected points represent the estimated score of a given game based on tee, distance and field position. The expectation of points is the average number of points per game for the team in a given game, not the total. In the "Team Statistics" section of the coach page, team statistics indicate the take-home opportunities, freebies and the rank of a team. Each player is a season and their estimated points value for that season as well as his / her total points.
Gary Fixter The Simple Rating System is explained in this blog post and uses the score difference and strength of the game plan to assign a rating to each team, with an average of 0.0 being the average. Strength of the game plan indicates the combined winning percentage of opponents that the team has played in a given year. If two teams play against each other regardless of home advantage, the difference between their SRS rating is considered a point distribution. This statistic was first introduced in 2011 in the section "Team Statistics" on the coach page, and the reasons for this are explained in my book "Thorns and Thorns."
